Chandrakant Tayade, DVM, PhD

Dr. Tayade began his education in India, where he earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Nagpur Veterinary College. From there, he went on to obtain both his Masters in Veterinary Science and his PhD from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute. After earning his PhD, Dr. Tayade came to Canada to complete a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Guelph.

In 2008, following his fellowship, Dr. Tayade joined the faculty of the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph as an Assistant Professor. He then came to Queen’s in 2009 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences. In 2014, Dr. Tayade was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. Dr. Tayade took on the position of Director of the Research Group in Reproduction and Development at Queen’s in 2016.

Dr. Tayade has published seventy-five peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Journal of Immunology, American Journal of Pathology, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Trends in Molecular Medicine. He has also been the principal investigator on a number of competitive grants from funding agencies such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Canada Foundation for Innovation.

For his outstanding contributions to research, Dr. Tayade has received a number of special recognitions. In 2012, he won both the Early Researcher Award from the Ministry of Research and Innovation as well as the Christian J Herr Award for Outstanding Contributions in Reproductive Immunology from the American Society for Reproductive Immunology. In 2014, he earned the Mihran and Mary Basmajian Award for Research Excellence from the Queen’s Faculty of Health Sciences. At the University of Saskatchewan, he delivered the D.L.T. Smith Lecture in 2016.
